Inspection on most projects is a person, a clipboard or a tablet, and a route. The output is a list: items, locations, photographs, a status column. It is honest work and it is almost useless as intelligence, because a list cannot tell you the one thing that matters — whether what you are looking at is an isolated defect or the visible edge of something repeated across every unit built the same way.

The arithmetic is unforgiving on a large asset. A four-hundred-key hotel is the same guestroom detail executed four hundred times. If the waterproofing upstand is being formed incorrectly, it is not being formed incorrectly in the three bathrooms someone happened to inspect. It is being formed incorrectly wherever that crew worked, and the cost of finding out at handover rather than at unit twelve is the difference between a method correction and a remediation programme.

Then there is the period nobody staffs. Practical completion is treated as an ending, and the defects-liability period that follows is when the asset most needs an advocate — because the contractor has demobilised, the consultants have closed their files, and the owner is alone with a list of obligations that quietly expire.

02The PRASOON method

Treat the site as a dataset. Then read it.

Every observation is structured on capture. Location, trade, specification reference, severity, and photographic evidence — recorded into the same project record the cost and programme disciplines use, so a quality event can be connected to the variation it later becomes.

Patterns are surfaced, not hunted. Observations are grouped across units, floors, and trades automatically. When the same detail fails three times in the same way, it is escalated as a method or supervision failure and priced across the full repetition — before the crew reaches unit forty.

HSE surveillance is tied to the record. Safety observations sit in the same dataset rather than a parallel file, which is what allows a trend to be visible before an incident makes it obvious.

Handover and defects liability are governed, not just administered. Obligations tracked to expiry, defects pursued to closure, and the evidence retained if a contractor's position on any of them turns out to be optimistic.

What makes an inspection structured rather than a walkabout?
